those who indulged but on those over-excited by love's passion
as well. It has symbolized peace, protection and tranquility.

time of dusk to a conscious shift into a different place.
Crossing this threshold is the lesson of humility, which Amethyst
can teach us. This stone can show us how to let go and trust;

your attention; give it all up, so that you can receive more;
and bow, that you may become a part of the greater whole.

usually found in quartz, but is formed from the dissolving
of other minerals containing silicates. These closely packed
fibers form in concentric circles or parallel bands. Carnelian
comes in a variety of colors ranging from red to orange and,
in some cases, even dark brown. Carnelian is one of the oldest
stones used in jewelry dating back to 3000 BCE and was found
in Egyptian tombs. Gem quality carnelian is called "Sard",
which refers to the ancient Greek and Roman word "sardius".

CITRINE. It increases mental focus, endurance and creativity
by activating mental powers and clarifying thoughts, and has
a positive influence on business and educational matters.
Citrine, the golden sister of the Quartz family is the rarest
of these energetic crystalline siblings. Quartz may be the
most plentiful mineral on the planet, however this sunny variety
has been elusive. Natural Citrine occurs in a range golden
rays, from a pale lemon yellow to a dark root beer brown.
The most sought after color for jewelry settings is the "madeira"
Citrine, followed by darker, more topaz colored gemstones.
In the dark ages of Europe, Citrine was extremely rare and
available only to the very rich. During the Plague the rich
were able to avoid the ravages of the disease by staying off
the infested streets. Safe in their manors and on self-sustaining
estates, they came to believe that gems like Citrine were
protecting them from the illness. The crystal was also used
to prevent snakes from biting and to shield one from the evil
intentions of another. Citrine's reputation for enhancing
psychic skills was recognized early on. Elders in some ancient
traditions would place a gem on their third eye when meditating
on their tribe's/clan's/family's future.
As a member of the Quartz family, Citrine can assist you
on several different levels. In business or finances, use
this crystal to both attract money into your life and to help
you maintain your wealth. If you are a business owner, place
a gem or crystal where money flows into your business (the
cash register, your desk, computer etc.). For home finances,
place one near your front door, or in the heart of your home
(kitchen, family room, where you spend most of your time).
In meditation, a terminated Citrine crystal is excellent
for helping to open and activate the Crown Chakra. Its bright
light will illuminate ideas and solutions that you could not
see or comprehend before. You'll learn to be more trusting
of your intuition and to better understand the messages received
from your inner voices, guides and angels. If you struggle
with self doubt, depression or simply can't get motivated
to start your next project, allow the Citrine gemstone to
join you as a companion. This crystal carries with it a joyful
spirit that embraces life. You will find it much harder to
despair around this bright gem spirit. Its fiery energies
will spur you into action and inspire new confidence to join
in all that living has to offer. You will find courage with
your Citrine friend. As your confidence grows, obstacles and
barriers that you built (or created in your mind) will melt
away. Allowing you to bravely face new adventures and challenges.
Citrine has a powerful influence on the Solar Plexus (3rd)
Chakra, which is also where our fear radiates from. As it
cleanses and clears this lower chakra, it pushes out your
fears allowing you to release them. Using the crystal in a
special meditation on your Solar Plexus will help you to safely
identify the true source of frightening dreams. Once your
are able to identify your demon, you can face it, defeat it.
and bring an end to your bad dreams. This gem's influence
on the Third Chakra makes it a healthy aid in resolving digestive
or eating disorders. Citrine may assist the body in absorbing
nutrients so that you can make full use of everything you
eat. The kidneys, spleen, pancreas and urinary tract could
also benefit from the health influences of this sunny gem.
Healers have also utilized Citrine to slow the formation of
growths (tumors, moles etc.), improve blood circulation, assist
in the regeneration of body tissue and to relieve the symptoms
of diabetes in its earliest stages.
DIAMOND. Besides being the most popular gemstone for engagement
rings, diamond is the accepted anniversary gem for the 10th
and 60th years of marriage. The name diamond comes from the
Greek word "adamas" meaning unconquerable - suggesting
the eternity of love. In fact, diamonds have been the traditional
symbol of love since ancient Greece. Discovered about 2500
years ago in the India, the ancients believed they were splinters
from the stars, perhaps crystallized lightening or hardened
dew drops. Although diamonds are associated with being a colourless
stone, they are occasionally found with a strong, bright colour-green,
red, pink, blue, canary yellow and amber. These "fancy"
coloured diamonds are highly prized.
When considering the use of a Diamond for healing purposes,
one must ignore its monetary value and concentrate upon the
stone's unique relationship with energy. It is frequently
combined with other gems or crystals. If used with an Aquamarine,
a Diamond will increase the Cleansing properties and mental
soothing that Aquamarine helps to produce. It worn or carried
alone, it will amplify the energy of the wearer. Unfortunately,
this includes any negative energy the wearer might possess
as well. Some literature contends that the blue light within
the color spectrum of a Diamond is beneficial for glaucoma.
Diamonds are beneficial to the brain and testicles. Some recommend
it for diseases of the bladder but only in desperate cases.
In all cases, the stone needs to touch the skin in order to
increase its effectiveness. Emeralds and Amethyst Quartz are
especially amplified by Diamonds. Powerfully absorbs and amplifies
thoughts/attitudes of user, other gems, and wearer's strengths
and weaknesses: Prosperity, generosity vs. miserly; love vs.
distrust; overview, spirituality vs. lust, immediate gratification.

many colours. Black opal has a black, dark blue, dark green

place on earth; a stone so sought after it proclaims to have

gemstone has for thousands of years been appreciated as a
holy stone, a good luck charm or talisman. A virtual people's
gemstone, this bright and happy colour is supposed to lend
self-confidence and bring happiness and good fortune for all.
The name means Turkish stone because the trade route that
brought it to Europe used to come via Turkey. The best qualities
are found in northeast Iran (Persian turquoise). However,
the United States southwest is now the world leader in production.
The deposits in Sinai were already worked out by 4000BC. At
that time the stone was used for jewelry, amulets and in the
preparation of cosmetics. During the 16th century turquoise
was used as currency by the Southwest Indians. They believed
the gemstone could bring spoils to the warrior, animals to
the hunter and happiness and good fortune to all.
Modern Spiritualists consider Turquoise to be a stone of
spiritual attunement, cleansing, protection and prosperity
and a symbol of the Earth and sky, good fortune and success.
Protection: Spiritualists say its change of color
from dark to lightto its ability to detect poisons, danger,
infidelity or sickness. This myth has survived to modern times.
It is an excellent token of protection for physical and astral
travel and vision quests, during which it acts as a grounding
force, strengthening the user against fear of the unknown
by enhancing one's feelings of trust, kindness, wisdom and
understanding. It can ward off strong negativity and protect
from the evil eye, reptile bites and diseases of the eye.
Further, Shamans extend its protective powers to one's property.
Superstitions-Some believe you should avoid wearing turquoise
that belongs to a deceased person or that it takes on characteristics
of the wearer. Gender of the Stone-Turquoise is androgynous
with a good balance of yin and yang.
Attunement: New Age followers believe Turquoise attunes
the physical to the higher realms, balances the mind and soul
and connects with all life. Some cultures consider it a bridge
between heaven and Earth.
Middle Eastern Spiritual Myths: Because, over the
millennia of its use, much of the world's supply of the stone
has come from Persia, the number of superstitions surrounding
Turquoise that originate from Persia and the surrounding area
of the Middle East is great. To begin, Hebrew tradition states
that Isaac opened the first mines in Persia.
Good Luck: Having seen the reflection of the new moon
in a stone of Turquoise, a person was believed to encounter
good luck soon, according to Persian lore. Arabian superstition
said it was a lucky stone and that it had good powers of benevolence.
They also attributed the accumulation of wealth and prosperity
with the stone.
Warning: The people of the Afghanistan, Persia, India,
and Arabia thought that a Turquoise stone that changed color
was an omen of illnesses or death. Muslim beliefs say that
a change in Turquoise's color meant that a woman had been
unfaithful. Arab writings from the 12th century warned that
a pale stone meant polluted air or a change in the weather.
Healing: Dipping Turquoise in water gave the water
the ability to cure bladder ailments. It could heal the eye
simply by looking at it.
Native American Spiritual Myths: As another major
source of Turquoise for centuries, Pre-Columbian America is
also rich in Turquoise legend. It is one of the most important
holy stones in their belief system for protection of the body
and soul.
Weather: The Navajo culture of New Mexico and Arizona
utilized Turquoise in their rain ceremonies, which required
the tossing of the stone into a river.
War: Some cultures said it was important in ensuring
the fortunes of warriors, hunters, and all tribal members.
The Apache felt that Turquoise combined the powers of the
sky and the sea to help hunters and warriors aim accurately.
The Heavens: Others believed it hat the ability to
connect the Earth and the Sky, symbols of the spirit and the
body. The Navajo believe that a piece of Turquoise is actually
a piece of the sky that has fallen to Earth. Archaeologists
have recovered Turquoise from burial sites in Argentina, Bolivia,
Chile, Peru, Mexico, and Central America.
Protection: The superstitions of the Zuni said that
Turquoise could protect them from demons.
European Spiritual Myths: Turquoise has only been
know as such recently in its long history. The name Turquoise
means Turkish stone and comes from European markets in the
Middle Ages, who received it from Turkish traders who brought
it from Persia. In antiquity, Pliny had named it callais,
Greek kalos lithos for "beautiful stone." European
superstitions have long associate turquoise with horses. They
believed that it could protect horses from danger and illnesses
as well as the rider from any fall that might occur while
riding. Europeans of the middle ages said that Turquoise would
lose its color when the wearer contracted an illness and was
a gauge of the general health of a person.
Eastern Spiritual Myths: Most Eastern cultures regard
Turquoise as a powerful protector and in general, a very lucky
stone. The religion of the Hindus said that it could accumulate
wealth and Tibetans believe that while turquoise can ensure
good fortune, it can also guard one's health, and protect
against the evil eye.
